Keep Calm and Bake On... | {The Serenity Project}

Updated: Sep 19, 2019

So, your days are packed and stressful...and just when you think you can't stuff another activity or project into your busy get-ready-for-the-holidays schedule, you get a request to donate a cake to an event at a local school, or you get invited to a cookie exchange or your husband volunteered to take a baked good to the office party...I have had each of these happen this year, and thankfully, baking is an outlet for me that I really look forward to and actually yearn for all year round. It is one of the ways that I can show people that I care. One of my favorite things to do is make oodles of cookies for my husband to take to work to have out in the days leading up to Christmas. There are many pilots who are working and away from home for the holidays. It's a little bit of "home" and I feel like it's the least I can do for them. It's not a lot, and it's really no big deal at all, but I do truly enjoy it.

It has been so fun in the last year or so to learn about and pursue photographing some of the things I have made. It can make the process more time consuming if I am photographing the "during" and not just the finished product - it's actually pretty hard to make that part of it "pretty". It also takes a lot more thought than usual when making various items I would like to photograph, as I have to remember to keep things tidy and stop and take a few snaps before I go on to the next step! - so I have been concentrating more on the "finished" shots. I have a long way to go, but that's okay - I really enjoy the practicing and compiling of great props and additions to my collection!

So for me, anytime, especially during the holidays, baking and making various treats is an escape and welcome addition to everything else that's going on in the daily hustle and bustle of the season. It's something I have loved to do ever since I was a little girl...

The Serenity Project is a collaborative photography project featuring images from several amazing artists that bring them a sense of peace and calm and it is our hope that the feeling is conveyed and passed on to you. Please continue the circle by going to my friend, Kristen Ryan's page, to find what brought her some serenity this month.

Thanks so much for visiting my page!

Amy, I'm speechless. These images are fantastic. I hope you're considering making a recipe book to give to future daughter's-in-law. :).

Your food photography is stunning. It is so nice to see that I am not alone finding peace in baking and photographing the finished product. I agree, it is hard to photograph the in-between steps; I keep trying, but not always remember.

Lovely sentiments Amy and so many great food photos. The pink and white cake and cupcakes are gorgeous! I keep wanting to do more but I think you pretty much have to plan on not eating what you photograph. I just bought the new Flat Lay breakout on Clickin Moms which I think I’m going to love.
