Monochrome Stillness Up on the Hillside | {The Serenity Project}

Updated: Nov 20, 2019

This past weekend, we were finally lucky to have an appreciable snowfall that was highly anticipated and welcomed by many, me included! For many reasons, I love the snow and how it blankets everything in a soft and beautiful covering. All of the dirty, grayness goes away and the soft, monochromatic hush of winter sets in.

I am fortunate to have a drone to explore my surroundings with and see what I can see from above. The vantage point is so different, and also so amazing. It changes your perspective so greatly and makes me want to get out even more and see what is out there!

This particular park is just a few miles from my house by car and even shorter "as the crow (or drone) flies". Another reason why I was excited to have a pretty snow: I couldn't wait to see what it would look like from above! So, I gathered up my stuff and headed out. It took me longer to trek out to the area I wanted to stand in and take off from than it did to drive to the park!

There are regulations that stipulate how high and far you can fly your drone and certain areas are off limits if close to airplane activity, etc. of course. The visibility wasn't great, so I didn't want it to get too far away from me during flight (AND I am still a little paranoid about fly-aways, etc. I've heard about online).

I put my landing pad surface down and went through my checklist and took off. The sights were, just as I anticipated, AMAZING...the only thing that would have made it even better was if there would have been a moose tucked in between the trees somewhere!

The potential of what you can capture with a drone is staggering. Every time I go out I come back so excited for the next time! I can't wait to see what else I can see of this beautiful place!

The Serenity Project is a collaborative photography project featuring words and images from several amazing artists that in some way, bring them encouragement or a sense of peace and calm and it is our hope that the feeling is conveyed and passed on to you. Please continue the circle by going to Joan Showers, Charlotte, NC Photographer to find out what she has to share this month.

Amy, I can't think of a better reason to get a drone. These are spectacular!!! You're in the perfect place for it too. Your processing is perfect. So glad that you included your fun self in this.

These are absolutely stunning Amy! I love the one with you in it also, it gives us a great sense of scale. What a fun and unusual perspective. Thanks so much for sharing it with us....and now I'm off to look for drones. :-)

Wow, those are fantastic images Amy. I keep telling myself I don’t want to start down the drone path—too much to learn with stuff I already have — but it is intriguing.

love these! I've been itching to get my drone out, but haven't had a chance - we just got a big dump of snow, too, so maybe if it sticks around this week....I love the trees from above!!
